The Indigenous Program at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine is pleased to announce the upcoming session of our “Come Walk in Our Moccasins” Mini-Medical School. This event is open to Indigenous youth in grade 7 up to post-secondary who are interested in learning more about pursuing a career in medicine. This year we will be moving to an online format and invite you to join us on Saturday, February 27th from 10:00am – 1:30pm on Zoom.

“Come and Walk in our Moccasins” was initiated in 2010 as a recruiting strategy to encourage First Nations, Métis and Inuit people to apply to our Undergraduate Medical Education Program.

The Mini-Med school includes participation by a local Elder and explores the importance of integrating Indigenous culture into health care.  Our Indigenous medical students will share their personal journeys to being accepted into medical school and their experiences in the MD program.  Dr. Darlene Kitty, our Indigenous Program Director, will talk about what it’s like to be an Indigenous physician practicing in the Cree community of Chisasibi, as well as the many other opportunities in the profession. Everyone will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the day.

Please share this with your colleagues and any other organizations working with Indigenous youth in grades 7 and up. Since it is an online event, we are able to open it up to organizations across the country.

The deadlines to register is: Wednesday, February 24th which will allow us enough time to finalize the list and groups.

To secure your space, please contact Tanya Lalonde, Indigenous Program Coordinator at
