Today theatre criticism faces many challenges: in the era of open internet writing the practice of theatre criticism in Canada and worldwide is rapidly changing. It becomes more experimental, reflecting the style of journalistic blogosphere not mainstream criticism currently published in official newspapers and magazines.

Antigone

Aux premières lueurs de l'aube, Antigone vient trouver sa soeur Ismène pour l'inciter à défier l'édit de leur oncle Créon, nouveau roi de Thèbes, afin de rendre les derniers honneurs funèbres à leur frère Polynice. Alors que Créon vient faire l'annonce de son décret aux citoyens, un garde le prévient que le corps de Polynice a été recouvert. Plus surprenant encore, c'est Antigone qui a osé défier la loi. La jeune femme demeure fidèle à ses actes et en assume les conséquences, ne laissant à Créon d'autre choix que de la condamner à mort.

Les Reines

Dans cette pièce inspirée du Richard III de Shakespeare, les six « reines » de Chaurette ressemblent davantage à des enfants jouant à la poupée dans un château bâti sur la mince couche d’un lac gelé. Édouard, le roi, se meurt. Les hommes sont littéralement dans les coulisses du pouvoir et conspirent pour le trône. On ne les voit jamais, mais ce sont eux qui dirigent véritablement l’action. Richard cherche à tuer son frère George et ses deux jeunes neveux. George fait le mort pour déjouer ses adversaires. Édouard refuse de mourir.

 Dr. Holmgren, who teaches at the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies at Duke University, has authored or edited six books and numerous scholarly articles on Russian and Polish culture, is one of the leading specialists of Russian and Polish comparative literatures and cultures.
