The presence of digital art works in the National Gallery’s collections and exhibitions since the early seventies up to the nineties with some examples from other art museums and galleries.
In recent years curatorial practice has become more sensitive to questions of inclusion, equity, and medium bias. In this talk I will review the research I have been undertaking with Lizzie Muller to address the urgent questions of how cultural institutions can respond creatively and ethically to the challenge of changing disciplinary formations. Tracking across museums and exhibitions, including Carbon + Light: Juan Geuer’s Luminous Vision I will draw out the ways that historical exclusions have limited the museum and gallery experience for their audiences.
In Search of Expo 67was a group exhibition created at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal in the summer of 2017, which marked the 50th anniversary of Expo 67. Co-curated by Monika Kin Gagnon and Lesley Johnstone, this major exhibition featured new and existing works by nineteen contemporary Québec and Canadian artists, inspired by the Montreal world exhibition, Expo 67. This talk will present some of the artworks in the exhibition, and discuss the myriad strategies through which archival artifacts about Expo 67 were activated.

The Graduating class of 2019 and Gallery 115 of the University of Ottawa will be holding a Holiday Fundraising Art Sale on December 5th from 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm in the Visual Arts building, 600 Cumberland, Gallery 115.
A portion of the proceeds will go to fund the 2019 Graduation Exhibition happening in late April.
This is a great opportunity to purchase artwork and Christmas gifts at reasonable prices from our talented students. The maximum price for a piece of art will be $200.

Lors de cette soirée, les candidats et candidates auront l’occasion de présenter leur meilleures œuvres (6-8 max) et leur carnet d’esquisse à un professeur de cours d’atelier afin d’obtenir des conseils constructifs et de recevoir des avis par rapport à la préparation d’un portfolio d’artiste. Il y aura aussi une courte présentation sur le portail de soumission numérique du portfolio, Slideroom.
This event is open to anyone interested in applying to the Visual Arts Programs for admission in the fall 2019 or 2020 term.
Applicants are encouraged to bring a selection of their best work (6-8 works) and their sketchbook for personal feedback and advice about how to prepare the portfolio. Professors and masters students will share tips on photographing work and preparing it for digital uploading. They will also give an introduction to Slideroom, our digital portfolio portal.
