Asbestos Type 2 Operations

This workshop includes a brief review of topics covered in Asbestos Awareness and Type 1 Operations, but will focus on Type 2 operations. Participants will spend most of the workshop on practical activities and scenarios related to building Type 2 enclosures to enter ceiling spaces and associated activities.

Each participant must bring respiratory protection (respirator) and have been recently fit tested.

Asbestos Awareness and Type 1 Operations

This workshop involves a general overview of asbestos, including:

  • Asbestos facts
  • Health hazards and effects
  • Roles and responsibilities of workplace parties
  • An overview of legislation, including work types 1 to 3 with focus on Type 1 operations
  • The University Asbestos Management Program
  • A practical type 1 exercise and knowledge assessment

The workshop is designed for personnel performing Type 1 operations.

Overhead Crane and Hoist

Do you work with cranes and hoists? Special training is required for overhead cranes, and this course covers the basic operating requirements for all these devices. Successful participants receive their crane operator card after attending both the theory and practical training modules.

Participation in this workshop requires protective footwear and headwear.

Compressed Gas and Cryogens

Upon completion of the workshop, participants will be familiar with common gases, their proper usage and the associated hazards. Topics include:

  • Correctly identifying common gas cylinders;
  • Identifying hazards (including flammability, asphyxiation, toxic, etc.);
  • Understanding the proper conditions under which gases should be stored;
  • Introducing safe handling practices;
  • Understanding safety features of cylinders and how they operate;
  • Safely transporting cylinders inside a building.
