Developmental Evaluation: Mapping the Practice

Developmental evaluation (DE) has become a prominent approach to program evaluation, distinct from formative and summative. DE has a fluid, collaborative and integrative character, yet it also has structure. We’ll explore a visual map of 7 components of DE practice developed through a mixed methods study, and discuss the role of DE in program innovation.

La plupart des disciplines expliquent le savoir en termes de réalités objectives, d’interprétations des personnes ou de correspondances entre elles. Par contre, les théories de la cohérence expliquent le savoir en termes de pertinence ou de viabilité contextuelle. Cette présentation soutient que les théories de la cohérence offrent un fondement épistémologique plus productif pour la recherche et
l’éducation interdisciplinaires.

Re-thinking knowledge for interdisciplinary research & education

Most disciplines explain knowledge in terms of objective realities, people’s interpretations, or correspondence between them. Coherence theories, by contrast, explain knowing in terms of contextual fitness or viability. This presentation argues that the latter offer a more productive epistemological basis for interdisciplinary research and education.

This presentation focuses on the usefulness of materialist theorizing within the context of a study with English and French second language teachers in government-funded programs for adult newcomers to Canada. The study considers the problem of how these teachers pedagogically juggle teaching French or English, fostering their students’ societal integration, and responding to the challenges presented by affectively- charged classroom life.

Le coaching en éducation; instantanés d’un paysage anglais

Le coaching (ou accompagnement) en Angleterre connaît une évolution depuis plusieurs décennies en tant que forme de perfectionnement professionnel pour les enseignants et les dirigeants des écoles. Ce colloque met l’accent sur le travail de six accompagnateurs. La recherche a fait appel à un groupe de discussion adapté pour explorer comment les accompagnateurs expliquent et conceptualisent la valeur de leurs pratiques.

Coaching in Education; snapshots from an English landscape

Coaching in England has been evolving as a form of professional development for teachers and school leaders for several decades. This colloquium focuses on the work of six coaches. The research used an adapted focus group approach to discover how coaches explained and conceptualised the value of their practices.

La transition des études supérieures au milieu de travail peut être non linéaire et imprévisible, tout en se révélant enrichissante au bout du compte. Je parlerai du parcours qui m’a menée de l’environnement universitaire à la fonction publique, et plus précisément au Service correctionnel du Canada (SCC). J’aborderai en outre l’évaluation de programmes dans le contexte du SCC.

The transition from graduate studies to the workforce can be both non-linear and unpredictable, yet ultimately rewarding. I will speak about my path from the academic environment to working in a public service setting, specifically the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC). I will also discuss program evaluation in the context of the CSC.
