Centering Blackness in Research and Community Engagement

Racial formation shapes space, give meaning to place and condition the experience of embodied subjects “emplaced” in and moving through material worlds. Therefore, it is imperative to continuously work together to reassess the embedded systematic and oppressive structures within academia. To bring forth change that will provide ongoing support to Black, Indigenous, and racialized students and professors.

Decolonization and conservation of Indigenous objects

Abstract : Making space for Indigenous voices and perspectives within the walls of institutions whose foundations are often rooted in a colonial period - which also saw Indigenous nations dispossessed of their cultural heritage - presents many challenges. The purpose of this conference is to discuss the various issues surrounding the acquisition, documentation, display, management, and restitution of Indigenous objects in the current context of decolonization and Indigenization initiatives in memory institutions across Canada.
