Opening Ceremony Birch Bark Canoe

From January 24 to March 23, the University community and the public are invited to participate (free of charge) in the construction of a 13-foot birch bark canoe in support of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s calls to action. Marcel Labelle, a proud Metis and Algonquin canoe builder, will lead the construction of the canoe at the University. Participants will explore aspects of Anishinabeg and Metis culture, including how Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing intersect with the disciplines of art, engineering, and science in a hands-on and interactive setting.
