This presentation provides an overview of the conceptual frameworks employed to measure science, technology and innovation (ST&I). It catalogues international concepts and definitions used in developing statistical measures. An overview of Statistics Canada’s ST&I data sources leads into a discussion of researcher micro data access. Throughout the presentation, challenges in developing internationally comparable data as well as tips on how to employ the statistical indicators will be provided.
Reforms of healthcare systems are on the political agendas of all OECD countries and include a wide range of policies aiming at improving healthcare delivery systems, optimizing the use of resources, and advancing population health. Canada is no exception and has seen repeated reorganizations or reforms (and often deceiving) responding to pressing contingencies and conditioned by predominant political ideologies.
Our hospitals, like others across the country, have to be transformed in order to become patient-centered and value-based. Such transformation is primarily a clinical one, and goes beyond an administration or IT led project. One way of achieving value-based hospital is through clinical operations management which involves people (clinical and administrative personnel), clinical and management processes, and information capture and delivery.

The paper sheds a new light on the intermediary role of underwriters, by examining how the underwriters handle difficult-to-sell IPOs. It argues that when faced with the potential of losing a deal due to withdrawal, an underwriter might find it optimal to price an offering above what investors would otherwise be willing to pay. But to ensure investor participation, the underwriter would commit to supporting the stock price in the aftermarket.
