The human rights violations and environmental destruction related to mining represent a specifically Canadian contribution to global harm. In this talk, we examine the range and depth of strategies by Canadian civil society organizations (CSOs) working to hold Canadian mining companies accountable for the harm they cause abroad. Based on analysis of quantitative data and preliminary interviews with CSO staff, we seek to understand their overall lack of success to date and identify which strategies that are most likely to be effective in the future.
