PS752: The Long Road to Transparency, Accountability and Justice

Presented by CIPS

On January 8th, 2020, a blameless Ukrainian commercial jetliner, Flight PS752, was shot from the skies over Tehran by Iranian surface-to-air missiles, killing all 176 people on-board, including 138 with ties to Canada.  How could this horrific disaster possibly happen?  Prime Minister Trudeau asked former Minister Goodale to assist the government in shaping its response.  To that end, Special Advisor Goodale published a far-ranging report last December.  The world is now awaiting a final safety investigation report from Iran.  Mr. Goodale will discuss what has been accomplished thus far and what to expect next on the long road to transparency, accountability and justice for the families of all those lost on PS752.

The Honourable Ralph Goodale served as a federal Member of Parliament elected from Saskatchewan for more than 31 years.  With experience in both government and opposition, his federal Cabinet responsibilities included Agriculture, Natural Resources, Government House Leader, Public Works, Finance and Public Safety.

Moderated by Thomas Juneau, Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa.
