In exploring how parents in Ethiopia know and care for their children with autism, this talk focuses on 'inner disturbance' as a descriptor of children with autism. Ethiopian parents understand their children with autism as not only capable of being deeply emotional but also sensitive to the emotional content in their social surroundings. I explore parents' understanding of this sensitivity through their experiences of caring for their children.
