The events of the past two years—ranging from Trump’s election, the Brexit vote, and the rise of the Far Right in Europe and around the world—raise some fundamental questions about the sustainability of the political and economic of the current (neo)liberal global order. This panel will tackle two key questions that these recent events raise:  what insights might international political economy (IPE) scholarship provide us into what is going on at the present moment; and what, if anything, do we need to rethink in IPE in order to make sense of the rise of illiberalism today.
