Chair of Ukrainian Studies

Dr. Wolowyna, a leading Ukrainian-American demographer, has been involved for years in a fundamental research project on the demography of the Holodomor, in partnership with colleagues at the Institute of Demography in Kyïv, Ukraine.

His talk will be on a parallel long-term project, under the auspices of the Shevchenko Society in New York, establishing a profile of the Ukrainian-American diaspora based on an innovative use of census data. Dr Wolowyna seeks to expand the project to include the Canadian-Ukrainian diaspora, in partnership with the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies. It has the potential of helping make more efficient the work of Ukrainian communities in Canada, as well provide a rich data source for innovative academic research.
