Our hospitals, like others across the country, have to be transformed in order to become patient-centered and value-based. Such transformation is primarily a clinical one, and goes beyond an administration or IT led project. One way of achieving value-based hospital is through clinical operations management which involves people (clinical and administrative personnel), clinical and management processes, and information capture and delivery. A novel model-driven approach to clinical operations management will be presented, where models depicting desired processes and flows are developed by clinicians and further refined by health informatics analysts using dedicated transformation framework. These models drive a structured, systematic, comprehensive hospital transformation from a volume-based enterprise to a value-based agile one. The proposed transformation relies on a hospital transformation ecosystem that brings together secondary and tertiary care providers, universities, not-for-profit start ups, and public agencies.
