Borni in 1948, Hélé Béji is a Tunisian writer.A specialist in modern literature, she taught literature at the University of Tunisia before taking a position with UNESCO. During the coup d’état in 1987, she was banned from teaching at the university. In 1998, she founded the International College of Tunis, of which she is the head. The author of a novel, stories and journal articles, she also published a series of essays on political and cultural issues (Désenchantement national : Essai sur la décolonisation, L'imposture culturelle,Nous décolonisés, Islam Pride: Derrière le voile and Béji Caïd Essebsi: L’inspiration tunisienne). Hélé is a renowned literary figure from a well-known family in Tunisian politics: her father was a minister under Bourguiba.
