CASCA/IUAES 2017 – The Conference/Inter-Congress of International Union of Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences (IUAES) and Canadian Anthropology Society (CASCA)
Special Lecture by ICSU President Professor Gordon McBean:
Addressing the Global 2030 Agenda for climate change, disaster risk reduction and sustainable development goals requires understanding the interrelationships among the environment, economy, society, cultures and beyond. These are complex and to “see the future” we need to bring together transdisciplinary teams, across the natural, social, humanitarian, engineering and health sciences, while maintaining disciplinary excellence. There are international science research programs – Future Earth, Integrated Research on Disaster Risk and Urban Health and Well Being, as examples. The International Council for Science and the International Social Sciences Council are both non-governmental organizations with a global membership of International Scientific Unions, national academies and scientific bodies. ICSU covers natural sciences, including physics, mathematics, geophysics and biology and some social sciences while ISSC covers social, economic and behavioral sciences. The IUAES is a member both of ICSU and ISSC. These Councils are moving to merge. This presentation will discuss these issues and opportunities.
Everybody in all disciplines, regardless of IUAES/ISSC membership, are invited.
